George Petrie Dies at Age 84
Reynolds Resident Most of His Life
George A. Petrie, a pioneer resident of the Reynolds vicinity died Wed. Aug. 29, at the age of 84. He had been ill in St. John's hospital, Browerville, for the past two months. Mr. Petrie was well known in the Reynolds vicinity having resided there most of his life.
Funeral services were conducted at the Stephan Funeral Home in Long Prairie Sat. Sept. 1, with the Rev. Thomas A. Gotshall, pastor of the local Methodist church, officiating at the service at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery. Six grandsons were the pallbearers.
George Albert Petrie was born Aug. 17, 1878 in Reynolds township, Todd county and grew up in that area. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Anton Petrie. He married Mary J. Porter in Long Prairie Apr. 23, 1902. Mr. Petrie resided in Todd county all his life with the exception of 14 months spent in Cottage Grove, Ore. He returned to Reynolds township where he farmed for 35 years on the place where he was born. He then farmed in Clotho. Later he bought a farm in Reynolds and has resided there since.
Surviving are his wife and the following children: Albert W. Petrie of Eagle Bend, Melvin C. Petrie of Long Prairie, Mrs. Arthur (Myrtle) Christiansen of Eagle Bend, Mrs. James (Marie) Griep of Anoka, Mrs. August (Mildred) Kortuem of Eagle Bend and Mrs. Glen (Nellie) Davis of Eagle Bend. There are 44 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death, Mrs. Bernie (Viola) Sackett and Lester Petrie.
