Dr Sun Yat-Sen is considered the Father of the Republic of China. He became the provisional president on Jan 1, 1912. Dr Sun studied the political systems of Europe & America. He formulated the Three Principles: nationalism, democracy & social well being. Dr Sun's revolt on Oct 10, 1911, known as the Wuch'ang Uprising lead to the downfall of the Qing dynasty. Dr Sun is revered by the communists on mainland China & the Kuomintang on Taiwan.
