Source: "Services will be held Friday for Mrs. Hulda G. Eckburg," The Pecatonica News, Thursday, 14 May 1959
Mrs. Hulda G. Eckburg, 84, a well known and beloved resident of Pecatonica all her life, passed away shortly after noon Tuesday in Rockford Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the last month. Death was attributed to infirmities of old age following a lingering illness.

She was born in Pecatonica December 13, 1874, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Holmberg and lived in the community all her life; for the past many years at the south edge of Pecatonica where she shared her home with the Stanley Peterson family.

She attended schools in this locality and was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church, where she was a faithful attendant and took an active interest in religious teachings. On September 1, 1893, she was united in marriage to Enoch Eckburg and the couple engaged in farming. He died in 1947.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Eckburg maintained her interest in local affairs and she had a great passion for horses and flowers. Her flower garden was the envy of her neighborhood and she took much pride in it. Most of her life was centered about her family and their comfort and happiness, but she never failed to answer the call of distress when needed by anyone else in the community.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Della) Erlandson, St. Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. Oscar S. (Ethel) Johnson, and Mrs. Stanley (Lillian) Peterson, both of Pecatonica; Mrs. Axel (Gladys) Youngren, Rockford; a son, Glenwood, Pecatonica; tow sisters, Mrs. Emma Anderson, Rockford, and Mrs. Hilda Lunden, Detroit, Michigan; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock in the First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carl Linder, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pecatonica Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight at the Chapin Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Sigfrid Swanson, Frank Groth, Charles Cole, Ludwig Ottoson, Arnold Karsk and Oscar Larson.
