Folk Personality. The American Medical Association listed the six-foot Hughes to be the heaviest human being ever. At the age of 6, he weighed 203lbs, at age 10, he weighed 378lbs and at age 25, he weighed 896lbs. On July 10, 1958, the 32 year old Hughes contracted measles that developed into uremia and he soon died. At his death he weighed between 1,041 to 1,069lbs. He was lowered into his grave by a crane and was buried in a specially modified piano case.

Abraham Guy Hughes (1878 - 1957)
Georgia Alice Weatherby Hughes (1906 - 1947)
Dora H Hughes Waters (1903 - 1977)*
Robert Earl Hughes (1926 - 1958)
Don't know where else to send the info, but as a child, I played on this man's head stone. The correction is thus:I know that a lot of common lore says that Mr. Hughes was buried in a modified piano case, but that is incorrect. (As a musician, I can tell you that no piano case on this planet would hold his weight without crumbling into pieces.)The truth of the matter is that he was buried in a casket the SIZE of a piano case - not the actual piano case, itself.
