Maries County Gazette, Thur. May 30, 1940 - Aged Woman Passes Away. Former Resident of Vienna and had Many Friends Here. Mrs. James Roberts, the former Matilda Simpson, died suddenly Tuesday at her home in St. James. She was past eighty years of age. She is survived by her husband, one daughter Cora Birmingham of St. James, and three sons Wayne Roberts of St. James, Walter Roberts of Saginaw, Michigan and Willie Roberts. One daughter Lola and one son Leo are deceased. She is survived also by one brother Bill Simpson of St. Louis, and two sisters Mrs. V.C. Henderson of Licking and Mrs. Tina Copeland of Dixon. A number of brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in St. James. The Roberts family resided in Vienna for a number of years and they have scores of friends here who regret to hear of Mrs. Roberts' death. We extend sympathy.
