A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of Katherine Clark Shelton and the late Carson Shelton. She was an AB Technical College graduate and worked as a receptionist in the medical field. Marlene enjoyed reading, the beach, Tennessee football, the Atlanta Braves and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of three years, Steve Wilson; a sister, Shirley Shelton of Asheville; one brother, William Shelton of Swannanoa; two aunts, Mary Jane Haynes and her husband, Roy, of Waynesville and Linda Woodbury and her husband, Bill, of Johnsonville, South Carolina; and one nephew, Tyler Shelton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with Chaplain Kevin Burleson and Reverend Tim Lolly officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
