and Mother Barbara Calhoun

Nathaniel Calhoun, Sr. and his wife, Barbara Calhoun passed away suddenly May 20, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident in Winona, MS.

Deacon Calhoun was born November 21, 1935 in Uriah, AL to the late Reverend Joe Nathan and Lelar Calhoun.

He was an active and devoted Christian who loved the Lord, who conducted himself in the true aspect of what the Word declares a "deacon" should be. He was a member of the Light of the World A.O.H. Church until joining the Breaking of Day Ministries. He was retired from Monsanto. He was an avid horse lover and a former member of Eagle Saddle Club under David Murphy, and subsequently founded Gulf Coast Elite Riding Club.

Deacon Calhoun was united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Marie Rogers on March 5, 1955.

Mother Barbara Calhoun was born February 8, 1940 in Pensacola, Florida to Mother Seppie Rogers and the late Wilson Rogers.

Mother Calhoun's captivating smile and love for her family and the Lord will forever live in our hearts. She was an active and devoted Christian who loved the Lord. She was a faithful member of the Light of the World A.O.H. Church and remained a member until her death. She was a retired nurse of 25 years at Baptist Hospital.

Deacon Calhoun was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Mother Calhoun was preceded in death by one sister, Zelma Gearo.

They leave to cherish their precious memories her mother; Mother Seppie Rogers, Pensacola, FL; Out of this union two sons; Nathaniel Jr., Larry (Betty) Calhoun, Pensacola, FL; three devoted daughters; Deborah Calhoun-Gant, Pensacola, FL, Chinetia (Reverend Michael) Brown, Rockledge, FL and Barbara (Derrick) Moore, Dallas, TX and ten grandchildren.

He leaves two brothers; James (Carrie) Calhoun, Pensacola, FL and Johnny (Lula) Calhoun, Palmetto, FL; three sisters; Rosemary (Charles) Tibbs, Betty Hall and Emma Harris, all of Pensacola, FL.

She leaves three sisters; Carrie Henderson and Miriam Faye Evans of Pensacola, FL and Doris Henson, Decatur, GA; two brothers; Frank (Cathy) Rogers, The Villages, FL and John (Terry) Rogers, Orange Park, FL.

Together they also leave a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives, including their church family and "riding buddies".

Public viewing today at Joe Morris and Sons Funeral Chapel from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 219 E. Johnson Ave., Pensacola with Overseer Shawon Salter, Pastor of Light of the World A.O.H. Church officiating. Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
