George Zuk
Birth: Jan. 1, 1882, Poland
Death: Dec. 12, 1935
Madison
Madison County
Illinois, USA

George was one of the survivors of the worst maritime disaster in Canadian history. His wife Maria and their two children were among the 1,012 who perished when the Empress of Ireland was struck by the Storstad in the St. Lawrence River on May 29, 1914. He married his second wife Louise Anna Stypula and they had three children: Walter Zuk, Henry Zuk and Josephine Zuk Petersen. Walter was named after his half-brother Wladisaw and Josephine was named after her half-sister Josefa, both whom perished when the Empress of Ireland sank. (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
