Jay W. Curtis, 81, oldest living person who was born in the Manhattan area, died Sunday at his home at Manhattan, where he had lived his entire life.
Curtis was born March 28, 1878, son of Wolcott Curtis and Alzina Palmer. He attended schools in that area and on January 21, 1909, married Myrtle McWaid at Bozeman. The family lived in Manhattan where he was engaged in farming. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary last January.
He was a member of Manhattan Masonic Lodge No. 59; Scottish Rite Mason; Sweet Briar Chapter, OES No. 49, and a noble of the Mystic Shrine.
Survivors, in addition to his widow include a son, Louis J. Curtis, Ashland, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. George (Evelyn) Butkay, Manhattan, and Mrs. Lucille Hayes, Bozeman; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Halbert, Judith Gap; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery at Manhattan.
