Tobias was a farmer. He lived in North Berwick, Maine for a time and then moved to Ossipee, New Hampshire at approximately 179?. He traveled on horseback from Kittery. He followed a native American trail through the forest which was marked by blazed trees. Blazed trees are marked by hatchet chops. Early travelers knew these marked trees would bring them to their intended destination.
