Mr. Kane was born at Germantown, Dutchess county, and was a son of John Kane. When a young man he became a boatman on the Delaware and Hudson Canal, locating at Spring Glen, which was his home for the remainder of his life, and where he has always been highly esteemed as a loyal citizen and a valuable member of the community. Since the closing of the canal he had devoted his time to agriculture and had always taken a great interest in the affairs of the little village.
Fifty-four years ago he was married to Louisa McClean, who survives him with 10 children: Mrs. Jennie Van Demark, of Bellevale; Mrs. Lavina Brown, of Wurtsboro; Charles Kane, of Fallsburg; Edward and Oliver Kane, of Cornwall; Neal Kane, of Ellenville; Henry Kane, of Fallsburg; Stanley Kane, of Napanoch; Mrs. Theresa Taylor, of Walden and Roy Kane, of New York. There are also 36 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kane was a member of the Ellenville Lodge, I.O.O.F., and of the Spring Glen M. E. Church, where the funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The interment will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery, at Phillipsport.
