James Kane, a well known and highly respected resident of Spring Glen, died at his home in that place on Thursday morning, following an illness of six weeks from pneumonia, at the age of 75 years.

Mr. Kane was born at Germantown, Dutchess county, and was a son of John Kane. When a young man he became a boatman on the Delaware and Hudson Canal, locating at Spring Glen, which was his home for the remainder of his life, and where he has always been highly esteemed as a loyal citizen and a valuable member of the community. Since the closing of the canal he had devoted his time to agriculture and had always taken a great interest in the affairs of the little village.

Fifty-four years ago he was married to Louisa McClean, who survives him with 10 children: Mrs. Jennie Van Demark, of Bellevale; Mrs. Lavina Brown, of Wurtsboro; Charles Kane, of Fallsburg; Edward and Oliver Kane, of Cornwall; Neal Kane, of Ellenville; Henry Kane, of Fallsburg; Stanley Kane, of Napanoch; Mrs. Theresa Taylor, of Walden and Roy Kane, of New York. There are also 36 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kane was a member of the Ellenville Lodge, I.O.O.F., and of the Spring Glen M. E. Church, where the funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The interment will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery, at Phillipsport.
