J. Okey Newman

J. Okey Newman, 78, Route 4, Box 285a, Clarksburg, died at 7:45 am Monday, Feb 8 in United Hospital Center, following an extended illness.

He was born in Bebee, Wetzel County, June 18, 1909, a son of the late James Ward and Rozena Tharp Newman.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Edna Howell Newman, whom he married Dec 23, 1933; two sons, Jerry Okey Newman, Central, SC and Lyle Keith Newman, Oakland, MD; one daughter Mrs. Edison (Shila) Childers, Route 4, Clarksburg; one brother, William Everett Newman, Route 4, Clarksburg, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Newman was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He was a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Chruch. He was a retired coal mine operator having the Newman Coal Company.
