Verl was the son of John R. and Edith P. (Wilson) Burrows. He served as a seaman in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific.
On 1 October 1950, he married Murl J. Wilson. They were the parents of two children.
Verl was an oil-field worker for Mobil Oil Company. During his retirement, he greatly enjoyed square dancing.
He was survived by his long-time companion, one son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Verl was a sweet and kind man with a huge heart. Once upon a time, he noticed the shoes his niece was wearing left a lot to be desired for her job as a waitress. When she wasn't looking, he slipped money in her purse with "For shoes" written on it.
Although calm and soft-spoken, he also had a wonderful and sometimes wickedly ornery sense of humor. He would plop the tea bag into his cup of hot water, all the while keeping a straight face, just to watch his brother-in-law squirm.
