Hiram Lewis Maine, son of John W. and Abi W. Maine, was born at West Jersey, Stark county, Illinois, November 1, 1864, and passed away at his home in Yorktown, Iowa, Monday, June 9, 1941, aged 76 years, 7 months, and 8 days. He is survived by his widow, Maude M., one son, Raymond M., of Sioux City, Iowa, one daughter, Margaret Lucille Reynolds, of Chicago, Ill, three grandchildren, Eugene Reynolds of Ft Worth, Texas, Dale and Rhea Reynolds of Chicago, Ill. Also surviving are two brothers, Perry A. of Newton, Kansas, Frank L. of Coin, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs M.W. McCunn, Miss Lettie Maine of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Mrs J.L. Paden, of Eugene, Oregon.
He became a Christian in early manhood and throughout his lifetime was an earnest worker in the church. A true Christian an honest man, and a devoted husband and father.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, June 11 at 2 o'clock in the Yorktown Methodist church conducted by the pastor, the Rev James Walls, Mrs W.H. Chaffin and Mrs Glen Miller sang three songs, "Sweetly Resting" "No Night There" and "Sweet Peace" accompanied at the piano by Mrs Clara Chapman. The many lovely floral tributes were cared for by Mrs Earl Annan, Mrs J.E. Isaacson and Mrs Finley Snodgrass. Pall bearers were B.F. Mitts, Earl Annan, J.E. Isaacson, James Preston, John Knollenberg and Cecil Gwynn. Burial was made in the Baker cemetery.
Among the relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were Mr and Mrs Raymond Maine of Sioux City, Mrs E.A. Reynolds and son and daughter of Chicago, Ill, Mr and Mrs Floyd Fulton and daughter, and Mrs Grace Applequist of Ottumwa, Mr and Mrs Clarence Harlan of Gravity , Mr and Mrs Herbert Carlson of Red Oak, Mr and Mrs Frank L. Maine and family of Coin, Mr and Mrs M.W. McCunn, Miss Lettie Maine, Mrs Elsie Carlson, Mrs Ruth Ashmore, Mrs Julia Carpenter, Miss Lillian Burton, and Rev Cecil of Shenandoah and Mrs Alta Whitson of Waldo, Kansas.
