Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 6th, 1952 at 2:00 p.m.from Oak Grove Baptist Church, for Thomas M. "Tommie" Thompson, age 42 who died early Thursday morning at the Veteran Administration Hospital (Mt. Alto), 2650 Wisconsin Ave., N.W., Washington, DC. He was stricken at Dahlgren the previous day with a cerebral hemorrhage, while at work at the Naval Proving Grounds, Dalhgren, VA.

The Rev. Theodore Witter, pastor of the church, conducted the service. He was assisted by the Rev. Treadwell Davison, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

He was born in Westmoreland Co., VA and attended Oak Grove School in Westmoreland Co. from about 1917 to about 1927. He was married to Miss Lucy Nelson Williams on September 18, 1941 at Rappahannock Baptist Church in Newland, Richmond Co., VA. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of World War II. He was inducted into the Army in 1/30/1944 and was a PFC. Duty Soldier in Company A, 177th Engineer Construction Battalion. He was stationed in the Aleutians Archipelago, Attu Island, Alaska between 26 Nov., 1944 and 12 Sept., 1945. He was Honorably Discharged from Army in 10/19/1945. He had been employed in the Supply Department at the NPG for several years.

Among the pallbearers were James Hamblin, Willie DeAtely, Melvin Jenkins, and fellow employees at Dahlgren. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Nelson Thompson, an eight year-old son; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Carroll Thompson; one brother, William Chester Thompson, all of Oak Grove area, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Effie Thompson Fortenberry, and one nephew, both of Arlington.
