Served in US Army in the European Theatre during WWII in the 325th Medical Battalion as a medic, discharged at rank of Corporal.

He received a B.S. and M.A. from Memphis State University.

His brothers were Lt. Woodrow Wilson Jacobs (1913-1968), who was principal of North Side High School of Jackson TN. He served in the 79th Infantry Div WWII and was h/o Marjorie Kathryn Futrell.

-Sgt. Ellis Carmack "Mack" Jacobs (1909-1944). He served in the 101st Airborne and was killed during Operation Market Garden during WWII. He died single.

-James Phelon Jacobs (1898-1960) of Mt Airy NC. He was a businessman and h/o Addie Boison.
