British Columbia, Canada
Named for his Grandfather.
Tiny was raised by his grandmother in Olds, Alberta. His mother Ethel died after childbirth of blood poisoning, and his father died of broken heart stated Tiny's adopted daughter.
He was General Manager of BC Tree Fruit/ Growers & BC Fruit Processers. He also had an artistic bent and was painting an orchard. Two days after he suffered his myocardial, some kids said to their parents there was a man "sleeping" in his car for two days.
He also led the development of Mission Hill Wineries. http://www.winesofcanada.com/history_wineries.html:
Mission Hills- In 1965 a Okanagan businessman named R.P. "Tiny" Walrod led the development of a California interest along with local investors in starting a winery perched on Mt. Boucherie over looking Okanagan lake. There were two separate companies Mission Hills Vineyard Ltd. and Mission Hills Wines Ltd. They would later consolidate into one public company. Walrod passed away before the winery opened.
Tiny was so well respected within the Kelowna community, they renamed his home street Walrod Street.
Former general manager of B.C. Tree Fruits and Sun-Rype Products Ltd. Ian Greenwood has become quite a writer in his retirement years. He has just written a book on the life and times of Sun-Rype Products from the beginning as B.C. Fruit Processors. Last time I heard it was being edited, for printing.
Now he has just written a story on one of most likable guys the industry has ever known, Tiny Walrod. Tiny was a key figure in the formation of B.C. Fruit Processors which later became Sun-Rype Products Ltd. He managed the company for sixteen years. He also was general manager of B.C. Tree Fruits and the founding managing director of Mission Hill Wines. I donít know where he is going to publish this story but it is a good read on this well respected man in the fruit industry he dearly loved.
Iím sure there are many who would like to read the story, well done by Ian.
