Funeral services for George L. Mitchell, a prominent citizen of the Boxwood community who died suddenly from a heart attack at his home Sunday morning, January 7th, were held from his late home Tuesday morning.
For the past year his health has gradually been declining, but his condition was not regarded as alarming.
Mr. Mitchell was born and reared in North Carolina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Mitchell and at the time of his demise was in his 57th year.
He was prominent in county affairs, having represented Henry County in the state legislature from 1924 - 1926.
On Dec. 27th, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Betty Turner of Axton.
Of this union, six children were born, four of which survive: Two sons, Turner and Odin of Boxwood.
Two daughters, Mrs. Basil Minter of Besoco, W. Va., and Mrs. Lucy Fogleman of Greensboro.
Piedmont lodge No. 152, F. & A. M., Martinsville, of which the deceased was a member, had charge of the burial service.
The pall bearers were: M. P. West, Clay Turner, D. J. Holland, O. C. Turner, J. P. Norman, W. R. West, J. C. Turner, T. L. Turner.
