PILOT MOUNTAIN, NC ~ Lester Ervin Sheppard. Jesus said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Rev. Lester Ervin Sheppard, 94, passed away on August 20.

He was born June 5, 1914, to the late William and Lila Jessup Sheppard.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and an inspiration to many. Rev. Sheppard was a retired Presbyterian minister. He pastored for over 50 years and was a good and faithful servant to Asbury Presbyterian Church, Francisco Presbyterian Church, Collinstown Presbyterian Church, Hills Presbyterian Church, Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Pilot Mountain. He served God, his church and community with loving dedication.

Rev. Sheppard was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Spencer Sheppard; two sons-in-law: R.T. Hunter and James Merritt; and a great-grandson, Chase Sheppard Hester; four brothers: Marion Sheppard, Carnis Sheppard, Tom Sheppard, and Richard Sheppard.

He leaves to cherish his memory Ersell Tilley Sheppard, his devoted wife of 69 years, his daughter Patricia Merritt of Rural Hall, his son Dean Sheppard (Kathryn) of Virginia Beach. He was a wonderful grandfather to Sheila Hester (James) of Belews Creek, Jeff Hunter (Janice) of Kernersville, Amy McPeak (Todd) of Winston-Salem, Meredith Sheppard of New York City and Brad Sheppard of Washington, D.C. He was a loving great-grandfather to Jamie Hester of Belews Creek, Meagan and Michael Hunter of Kernersville, Tanner and Sloane McPeak of Winston-Salem. He is survived by brothers, Paul (Markie) Sheppard and Glenn (Sherry) Sheppard, sisters-in-law Mildred Sheppard and Inez Sheppard and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, at Asbury Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the Sheppard Fund, Asbury Presbyterian Church, 163 Sheppard Knoll, Mt. Airy, North Carolina 27030.

Special thanks to the nurses and caregivers on the A wing of Oak Forest Rehabilitation Center in Winston-Salem.
