He was commissioned a lieutenant colonel of artillery in the Revolutionary Army in 1776 and later served as quartermaster general on the staff of General Nathanael Greene; He commanded the artillery in the Battles of Hobkirk's Hill and Yorktown in 1781; A Delegate from Virginia to the Continental Congress from 1786 to 1788, he was appointed Marshal of Virginia by President Washington in 1789; He served as jury foreman during Aaron Burr's trial for treason in 1807. (bio by: Garver Graver)
