Lafayette Baxter is the son of Roseann "Annie" Woods. Her first husband, William Franklin Baxter died 10/22/1873 so is probably not his father. His death certificate lists him as Lafayette Bickmore and states that his father is John Bickmore, but he went by the name Baxter all of his life.

Funeral services for Lafe Baxter were conducted by the Rev. James H. Clay in the Kelly funeral parlor on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17, at 2:00 o'clock.

Mr. Baxter was born near Canton July 13, 1877, and passed away at his home in Canton, December 15, 1935, aged 58 years, 5 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage September 15, 1900, to Miss Eva Sherwood, who preceded him in death April 22, 1926. On Dec.24, 1926, he married Mrs. Emma Wilson. To this union was born one son, Wade.

Mr. Baxter united with the Bluff Springs Methodist church in early childhood and in 1909 transferred his membership to the Shiloh Baptist church under the pastorate of the Rev. John Scott.

Surviving are his widow and son, Wade; a sister, Mrs. Martha Fox of Alexandria; two brothers, Wm. F. and George H. Baxter of Canton; and five step-children, Mrs. Leo Brown and Mrs. Howard De Rosier of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Mrs. L.T. Brown of St. charles, Mrs. Esther Cowsert of Elizabethtown, Ill., and Arthur Wilson of Littleton, Ill.

Burial was in Forest Grove cemetery.
