Born in Medford, Massachusetts, Bill Fennelly graduated from Providence College in Rhode Island. He lived several places, including Boston where he was manager of the Harvard Club and Martha's Vineyard where he managed several hotels, before moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1987.

As a South Florida resident, Fennelly was best known for his work with NAMES Project South Florida, where he served as treasurer.

"The community has lost one of its souls," said Father Dennis, who conducted the service at St. Clements Catholic Church in Fort Lauderdale. "he was a man of faith, a man of conviction, a man of heart, a man of compassion, a light shining in the darkness. One of the things he did so well was make us feel important."

Bill's brother, Charlie, remembered him as his big brother who always looked out for him, no matter how old they were. "I want to say how proud and lucky I was to have Bill as my big brother. We all loved him, and we will miss him very much."

He is survived by his mother, Virginia, brother Charles, sister-in-law Mary, niece Patricia, nephew Jimmy, and many friends. His ashes were scattered at his father's grave in Medford, Massachusetts by his loving family.
