Dad was born June 22, 1923, the third of five children at Sedgwick to Cleo and Grace Parker Clevenger.
Swede was a graduate of Crook High School in 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent time overseas in the Pacific Islands of New Hebrides.
Swede and Edie were married March 16, 1946, and were blessed with 61 years of marriage. To this union were born three children: Diane Freeman of Iliff, Rex Clevenger of Imperial, Neb., and Allen Clevenger of Crook. He enjoyed being "Grandpa Delbert" and his favorite pastime was teasing and joking with his grandchildren: Lisa and Jim Schaefer, Brian and Maggie Freeman, Josh and Jessica Freeman, Kelly and Christine Clevenger, Tori and Cory Holm, Robyn Lange, Brady Clevenger, Justin Clevenger and Troy Clevenger. He was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
Swede was happiest when his sons and grandsons came over for a game of cribbage or pitch. He taught them all to play throughout the years. He loved to play golf too, and spent many happy hours playing on the Crook Golf course. He was a wonderful dancer, and Diane and his granddaughter,s Lisa, Tori and Robyn, always cherished a dance with him.
Swede was a man of the soil. He spent his entire life farming and loved tending the crops until it was time for harvest. He always had cows and calves, and he had a special passion for horses.
He was an active member of the Sullivan-LeBlanc Post 4191 and served as Commander. He served as a Crook Volunteer Fireman. He belonged to the Sterling Elks Lodge, the Crook Historical Society, and was a charter member of the Crook Golf Club.
