Albert (Bert) Lumbert

December 17, 1926 - October 22, 2006

Commander Albert Wayne (Bert) Lumbert , age 79 of Cleveland, has gone to be with the Lord, in whom he loved with sweet hope as one of His elect. He retired from the United States Navy after 25 years of service. He was decorated with the Commendation Medal, Meritorious Achievement Award, European, American and Asiatic Awards and numerous medals and citations earned during World War II, Lebanon Crisis, Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, and peacetime. He served aboard numerous ships and shore stations in the Atlantic and Pacific and American Homeland areas. He was commanding officer of the USS Terrebone Parish (LST-1156), Nato War Plans Officer for Amphibious Force Andus Atlantic Fleet. He was communications officer for the project Mercury Recovery Force.



He was of the Primitive Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 56 years, Zora Lou Whaley Lumbert, and son, Gary David Lumbert; sister, Carol Sue Hellard; parents, Frank and Lilly Belle Lumbert; half brother, Steve Albright.



He is survived by two sisters: Bette Jo Wilson and Bobbie Anne Miller; one brother, Gene Lumbert; two half sisters: Billie Ruth Houser and Maria L. Albright. Dear friends Martha Beck who has been loyal and true these past four years and Buddy Messer who has been loyal and true for seven years.



Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Elder J.B. Huskey officiating. Interment will follow in Moores Chapel Cemetery with military honors.
