Birth: Feb. 8, 1866, Austria
Death: Nov. 17, 1933
Renville County
Minnesota, USA

Michael Laurence Singer was born on 08 February 1866 in Bohemia (Austria), to Georg and Anna Riewitzer Singer. Michael came to America in 1886, at the age of 20. He secured temporary work in New York.

Michael moved from New York to Chicago, where he heard of great opportunities in Minnesota, so he moved to Tyler, Minnesota. After a short time, he moved to Morton, Minnesota, where he quickly gained a reputation as a most respected and trusted citizen.

On 01 September 1891, Michael was united in marriage to Mary Anna Goblirsch, the daughter of Michael and Katherina Weis Goblirsch, in Bird Island, Minnesota. After their marriage, Michael and Mary lived in Morton where Michael operated a blacksmith shop and they raised their seven children.

Michael Laurence Singer died from double pneumonia on Friday morning, 17 November 1933, at his home in Morton, Renville County, Minnesota.

Although just bordering on pioneer age, Michael was recognized as one of the oldest businessmen of Morton, and one who actually saw it grow out of pioneer days. To those who knew him intimately, he lived his 45 years in the Morton community as one of their most respected citizens.

Michael was survived by his wife, Mary Anna; their seven children, George J. of San Diego, California; Barbara M. Singer of St. Paul; Mary (George) Kinney, Katherine (George) Kleeman, Michael, Jr., Lawrence, and Thomas Singer of Morton; brothers, Joseph and Wencel of Morton; sisters, Mrs. Mike Ruhland of Morton, Mrs. Anna Tower of Bemidji, and Mrs. Barbara Hubert of Germany; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, 21 November, from St. Johnís Catholic Church with Reverend A. J. Koller of Fairfax officiating.

Michael was buried in St. Johnís Catholic Church Cemetery in Morton, Renville County, Minnesota, on 21 November 1933.

Pallbearers were Earl Daun, William Chroup, Dan Middleton, James Clancy, Pat Ryan, and Dave Brown.
