Helen J. Lockhart (nee Mihalik), 88, of Lorain, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a short illness. Born in Belle Valley, she had resided in Lorain most of her life. Mrs. Lockhart worked at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain in the dietary department for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, traveling and watching sports on television. She also enjoyed watching the boaters on Lake Erie from her residence at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home. Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Smith of Circleville; sons David Lugar and Donald Lugar, both of Lorain; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Merrill of Lorain; and brothers John A. and Allen, both of Elyria, Andrew of Lorain, William of Amherst; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Lugar; her parents, John & Susan Mihalik (nee Endrick); brothers Steven, Joseph, Thomas and John Jr.; and sisters Mary Wilhelm, Margaret Mihalik and Martha Ciesla. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain, where services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth J. Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, 44035 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 63445, Cincinnati, OH 45263-4445.
