She grew up on the family farm in Swan Valley where she learned the strong work ethic she carried with her throughout her life. Fern met her husband Henry when he came to work for her father on the farm. After they married they became successful farmers, always working together to make their farm better. After their retirement Fern and Henry moved to Apache Junction, Arizona where they lived for over 30 years. Fern was a wonderful cook, an immaculate housekeeper and a great dancer.
She loved to watch Lawrence Welk and reminisce about the times she and Henry danced the night away. Fern always dressed up. She had her hair done weekly, wore pretty clothes, nice shoes and always had on earrings and a necklace. She was an inspiration to the whole family. Fern worked in an aircraft factory during world war two, in the mess hall when Palisades Dam was being built and was a long time employee of The Irwin Trading store.
Fern is survived by her son Douglas Young, her beautiful granddaughters, Robyn and Rebecca and their husbands Andy and Jerry; her five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Tyler, Emily, Wendy and Paul, five great-great grandchildren, her long-time companion Gil Dyrness and one brother Ted Baker. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband Henry, her sisters Wilma, Mable and Letha and her brother Chet.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at the Ririe Shelton Cemetery in Ririe. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
