Gary Bollum

Gary Bollum, loved by all who knew him, died at his home Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, when Cancer claimed his gentle soul as family members gathered at his bedside. To his wife, Deb; their children Eric, Andrea, Tim; and three grandchildren, his death is an immeasurable loss. Friends, co-workers, and acquaintances will long remember him as a generous, hard working man who always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone.
Born in 1953 to Rolf (d. 1999) and Alice (Persson) Bollum, Gary was the fourth of eight children. A lifelong resident of Brainerd, he was a founding partner with two brothers and Craig Terhark (deceased) in Chopper's Bar and Grill. He also worked as a partner for many years in Steve's and Gary's Drywall and as a volunteer fireman in Brainerd. In his early adult life Gary was employed briefly on the iron ore boats sailing the Great Lakes and at the tie plant of Burlington Northern Railroad.
Gary was an avid sportsman, gardener and woodsman. A keen traveler, he most enjoyed working at his beautiful homestead east of Brainerd among his family and friends. All will miss him. May he rest in peace.
Gary is survived by Deb (Bartylla), his wife of 30 years; children, Eric, Andrea and Tim; grandchildren, Alexis, Jaiden and Elijah; his mother, Alice Bollum; siblings, Don, Keith, Mary and Tom Espersen, Rick and Rose, Carol and Jim Guin, and Brian.
Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor David P. Holte officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are with Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd.
