Melton Boeder

NAMPA, Idaho -- Melton "Buck" A. Boeder, 90, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at a Nampa hospital 50 days after his 90th birthday, and two days after his 65th wedding anniversary with Phyllis. A funeral service to celebrate his life was held on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa. Services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with visitation beginning the hour before services. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard.

Buck was born on Dec. 5, 1914, the seventh child of nine on the family farm in Glencoe, Minn. He began his career as a teenager at Levis' Soda Fountain in Brainerd. He met his bride-to-be, Phyllis, also working there. He managed the B and L Restaurant in Staples, Minn., in the later 1930s and the Brite Spot Restaurant in Fergus Falls, Minn., in the early 1940s. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He coordinated kitchens to feed the soldiers in Italy and many other stations in Europe. Following his honorable discharge, Buck and Phyllis owned the Maple Leaf Restaurant in Brainerd until 1955 when they purchased the Toot and Tell Drive-in in Nampa, Idaho.

They owned the President Lounge in Caldwell, Idaho, from 1963-1976. Buck later managed the Caldwell Elks Lodge and then worked at the Nampa Elks Lodge well into his 80s.

Although work was Buck's passion, he came to enjoy family activities of riding horses, tending the landscape of his son's homes, watching his grandson's sports events and gardening at his Nampa home. He loved his family and generously gave of his time and resources. Buck was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa.

Buck's life and his passing are honored by his wife, Phyllis Bernice Boeder, Nampa; his eldest son, Jerome Paul Boeder, Las Vegas; his youngest son, Jess Seymour Boeder, and his wife, Caryl (Kaiser) Boeder, and their son, his beloved grandson, Schafer Cale Boeder, all of Eagle, Idaho; one brother, Clifford Boeder, Brainerd; and a host of nieces and nephews all of whom he cared about deeply.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Zion Lutheran School, 1012 12th Ave. Road, Nampa, ID 83686.
