Wiley Sears, 71 years old, of St. Marys, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at his residence.


Wiley was born March 29, 1944 in Jesup, Georgia and was the son of the late George B. and Lucy Mason Sears. He had resided in Camden County for the past 48 years and was retired from Gilman Paper Company with 36 years of service.


If you were familiar with the downtown golf carters in St.

Marys, you knew Wiley. He had the fastest golf cart with duel exhausts and always had his puppy Bubba with him. Wiley was also known as the Senior on Patrol, always keeping an eye on the Gilman Property, the park, and everyone elses property downtown St. Marys. He was an outdoorsman, and loved taking photos of birds. A friend who will never be forgotten, and loved by everyone, will truly be missed. He was a member of the International Paper Workers local #446, and was of the Methodist faith.


Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17th at 10:00 am at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, with Pastor Bobby Woods officiating. Interment will follow at the Akin United Methodist Churchyard Cemetery at Mt. Pleasant at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm.


Pallbearers: Terry Sears, David Dyal, Chris Hodge, Ralph Melton, and Al Chapman.


Survivors include his son, Chris Sears of St. Marys; sisters, Helen Long (Ed) of Mt. Pleasant, Jean Underwood of Brunswick, and Nell Sanders (Ken) of Jesup; granddaughter, Kori Ashton Sears McGraw. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Annette Pickren Sears, his second wife, Sara Lou Corn Sears, brother, Jimmy M. Sears, and sister, Marian Pickren.
