Merlin B. Russell was born April 7, 1920 in Frederick, Oklahoma (Tillman County), son of Clint W. Russell and Myrtle Bonifield. The Missouri Marriage Records show that Clint W. Russell and Myrtle Bonifield married January 9, 1907 in Charleston, Missouri (Mississipi County). Merlin had three brothers, Homer, Harold, and Lee Roy; and two sisters, Merline, and Dora.
The 1930 Federal Census for Hazel, Oklahoma (Tillman County) shows Merlin B. Russell, age 9, born in Oklahoma; living with his father, Clint W. Russell, a cotton farmer, age 45, born in Missouri; and his mother Myrtle Russell, age 44, born in Missouri. Also living in the household were Merlin's siblings: his twin sister, Merline, age 9; Claud Harold, age 4 years 1 month; and Lee Roy, age 1 year 9 months; all born in Oklahoma.
The U.S. World War II Enlistment Records show that Merlin B. Russell enlisted for military service on February 16, 1942 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The record shows that Merlin was single, that he had four years of high school, and that he entered the U.S. Army as a private.

Merlin B. Russell, age 65, of Oklahoma City, born April 7, 1920 in Frederick Oklahoma, came to Oklahoma City in 1940. A World War II veteran, member of the Shriners, longtime civic leader. President of Broadway Machine and Motor Supply, Inc., also May Ave. Radiator and Welding Service, Inc.
Survivors are his wife, Linda of the home; brother, Lee Roy Russell; sister, Merline Newton; and several nieces and nephews. Services 2pm Friday, January 24, 1986, at the Mayfair Church of Christ, with interment in Rose Hill. Directed by Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
