W. SAXTON HUBBARD Goshen, N.Y. W. Saxton Hubbard, an area resident for most of his life, formerly of Middletown and Wanasink Lake in Rock Hill, died October 16, 2003 in Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. He was 94. The son of the late William Arthur and Elizabeth Buell Hubbard, he was born May 29, 1909 in LeRoy, N.Y. He was a criminal investigator for the U.S. Treasury Department retiring in 1967 and then became the Commissioner of Assessment and Taxation for the City of Middletown, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middletown; 68-year member of the Monhagen Engine Company No. 1, Middletown; member, former treasurer and member of the Fellowcraft Team of Hoffman Lodge No. 412 Free and Accepted Masons, Middletown; member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Albany; Cyprus Temple Shriners in Albany; member and past president of the Orange County Shrine Club; from 1993-1994 served on the Staff of the District Deputy Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York; former advisor for the Martin B. Connnolly Chapter of the Order of Demolay; member of New York State Assessor's Association; Orange County Chapter of the N.Y.S. Assessor's Association; Institute of Assessing Officers; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; N.Y.S. Employee's Retirement System; enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service; United States Civil Service Commission; American Association of Retired Persons; National Association of Treasury Agents; the Association of Federal Investigators; life-member of the U.S. Treasury Agents Association; and member of the Middletown Elk's Lodge No. 1097. Survivors include his wife, Marie G. Hubbard at home in Goshen; one son, Dr. Van Saxton Hubbard and his wife Linda of Bethesda, Md.; one daughter, Mary Sue Gerson of Bridgewater, Conn.; one stepdaughter, Tina Muncy of Montpelier, Vt.; four grandchildren, Brian S. Hubbard, Kevin S. Hubbard, Kimberly Gerson Sillcox and Peter Saxton Gerson; two step- grandchildren, Elisha Muncy and Aaron Muncy; one great-granddaughter, Carly Olivia Sillcox; cousin, Wales S. Buell. He was predeceased by his first wife, M. Elizabeth VanFleet Hubbard and one sister. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, October 19 at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown where a Monhagen Engine Co. Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 20 at Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church, 50 East Main St., Middletown. The Reverends Kenneth and Susan Faye Wonderland will officiate. Private interment services will be in the Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home
