Hershel Lee "H.L." Hodge, 80, of Galena, Kansas died at 6:17 p.m. at Freeman West in Joplin, Missouri.
H.L. was born June 15, 1930 in Protem, Missouri to Hershel and Alma (Jones) Hodge.
He attended schools in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School.
He served his country in the U. S. Army as a medic from 1951-1953.
On May 25, 1956 he married Beaulah Stone in Carl Junction, Missouri.
Hershel was employed as a foreman for Eagle Picher in Galena and Fiberix in Joplin.
He raised peacocks and cattle and loved to tinker with cars. He liked to weld.
His favorite past time was watching old westerns on TV.
H.L. was preceded in death by his wife Beaulah on July 31, 2010; his parents; one brother, Lonnie Hodge; and one sister, Ruby Waters.
Survivors include his daughter, Vicki Hodge of the home; three brothers and their wives, Dee and Delores Hodge, Otto and Leaulah Hodge, and Fred and Pauline Hodge all of Columbus; two sisters, Sybil Koger of Columbus, and Ruth Morrow of Lake Worth, Florida; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2011 at Murdock Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus with Rev. Clyde Turner and Rev. John Pigg.
Burial will follow in Park Cemetery, Columbus.
The family suggests memorials to the Carl Junction Assembly of God Church in care of Murdock Funeral Home, 132 E. Pine, Columbus, Kansas 66725.
