RICHARD J. LEWIS
Richard James Lewis, 72, 114 Hancock, a life-long resident of Rock Springs, died Wednesday at 5 a.m. in Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient one day. He had been in ill health 10 days.
Mr. Lewis, a retired coal miner, was born March 10, 1895, in Rock Springs, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Ord Lewis. He was a veteran of World War I, in which he served in the United States Army, and a member of United Mine Workers of America, IOOF Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First Congregational Church.
The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Bernice) Likwartz, Rock Springs, and Mrs. Donald (Helen) Krichbaum, Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth who died March 23.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Vase Funeral Home, the Rev. Douglas Wasson of First Congregational Church officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, where military graveside services were conducted by the American Legion, Archie Hay Post No. 24.
Pallbearers were Tom Hartt, George White, Dwight Jones, Robert Wilde, Frank Robertson and Steve Kolar.
