Kenneth, the son of Francis J Stutes and Thelma H. Stutes of Lafayette LA enlisted in the US Marine Corps on January, 1966 in New Orleans LA. He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On Operation ELLIOT, a search and clear mission, Company A, was under the OPCON (operational control) of the 1st Marine Regiment and was sweeping the outskirts of Da Nang City in Hoa Vang District of Quang Nam Province. During the search for enemy a AP (Anti Personnel) mine was tripped which caused an explosion killing LCpl Stutes as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds from the hostile device.
