Sanchez combined slick countering and tremendous punching power to defeat many top pros including Wilfredo Gomez, Juan Laporte', Danny "Little Red" Lopez, and Azumah Nelson. He succesfully defended his Featherweight Championship 9 times. Late in the evening of August 13, 1982, Sanchez was out driving his Porsche through the town of Queretaro, Mexico when he was struck by a Tractor Trailer and, tragically, was killed instantly. In June 1991, almost 9 years after his death, Sanchez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
