He was nicknamed "Piano Mover" due to his off-season work as a furniture mover in his father's business. On April 22, 1904, he made his debut as a right hand pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. He pitched a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers September 6, 1905 and another no-hitter against the Philadelphia Athletics September 20, 1908. He played 11 seasons with the Chicago White Sox (1904-1910), Boston Red Sox (1910-1911), Cincinnati Reds (1911-1912), Baltimore Terrapins (1914-1915) and Brooklyn Tip-Tops (1915). He was the American league strikeout leader in 1909, had two 20-win seasons, ending his career with 139 wins, 111 loss, 1051 strikeouts and a 2.59 earned run average. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
