The 6-foot-1, 185-pound outfielder was a steady performer for the St. Louis Browns from 1927 to 1932, the Washington Senators from 1933 to 1935 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1936 and 1937. He hit .317 in 60 games during his debut season and followed with .286 with 44 doubles, 85 runs batted in and 90 runs scored in 1928. The right-handed swinger then hit .307 in 1929, .278 in 1930 and .304 with 32 doubles and 100 runs scored in 1931. Schulte batted .294 with 35 doubles and 106 runs scored in 1932, but the Browns traded him, outfielder Goose Goslin and pitcher Lefty Stewart on December 14, 1932 to Washington for outfielders Sammy West and Carl Reynolds, pitcher Lloyd Brown and $20,000. He hit .295 with 30 doubles and scored 98 runs for the Senators in their 1933 pennant-winning season. In the World Series he batted .333 (7 for 21) with a double, a homer and four RBIs, but the New York Giants prevailed in five games. He hit .298 with 32 doubles in 1934 and .268 in 1935. He was sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates on January 30, 1936. His 11-year career showed a .292 lifetime average with 249 doubles, 54 triples, 47 homers and 593 RBIs. He managed some in the minor leagues and was a scout from 1947 to 1964 with the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Braves. He was born and died in Belvidere, Ill.
