Born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut with the St. Louis Browns on September 19, 1919. For eleven seasons, he played with the St. Louis Browns (1919-27) and Detroit Tigers (1928-29). He ended his career with a record of 99 wins, 102 loss, 90 complete games, 13 shutouts, 19 saves, 474 strikeouts and a 4.28 earned run average. He died at age 81 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
