Emigrated from Scotland in 1882 with his parents and sister, Margaret.

Married Elizabeth Young.

Children: Wilfred Alexander Farquhar, Margaret Adeline (Farquhar) McCarthey, Helen Elizabeth (Farquhar) Quinn, Joseph Herbert Farquhar. Daughter Margaret was known as 'Adeline'.

A celebration was held for Alexander's 90th birthday at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora, Ontario. The news article about the event included the names of family members, a family photo, etc. See the following newspaper on the Wellington County Museum and Archives website for details:
