U.S. Continental Congressman. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey, he was a member of the committee of correspondence for Gloucester County in 1774 and a member of the Provincial Congress, (1775-76). He also served on the committee that drafted the first constitution of New Jersey and was appointed by the Provincial Congress treasurer of the western division of New Jersey, (1775-76). In 1776, he was elected to the First Continental Congress, but did not attend, to serve on the legislative council for Gloucester County, (1776-80, 1784). He was a member of the New Jersey State council of safety in 1778, elected judge of the pleas for Gloucester County courts in 1779 and served until his death at age 56 in Woodbury, New Jersey. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
