Best known for his roles in Hollywood western films and classic television series, usually as a sidekick. Between 1948 and 2002 he appeared in over 135 films and many television shows. His films include, "American Gun" (2002), "Snow Dogs" (2002), "Texas Rangers" (2001), "Payback" (1997), "Afflictions"(1998), "Keys To Tulsa" (1997), "Maverick" (1994), "Draw!" (1984), "Goldengirl" (1979), "Midway" (1976), "In Like Flint" (1967), "The Great Escape" (1963), "Charade" (1963) and "The Magnificent Seven" (1960). His television appearances include, "Bronco" (1958-1962), "Bonanza" (1959-1973), "Murder She Wrote" (1984-1992), "The Rifleman" (1958-1963), "Trackdown" (1957-1959) and "Perry Mason" (1957-1966). In 1997 he made a series of commercials for a casino slot company and in 1999 he won an Oscar for his performance in "Afflictions". On November 18, 2002, while listening to music with his wife at their Beverly Hills home, Coburn suffered a heart attack and died at age 74. (bio by: K)
