Elmer Gedney Bio
Elmer Gedney was born October 13, 1883 in Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa to John James Gedney and Martha Jane Teater, he was one of the twins born to the couple, a fraternal twin brother to Ella Gedney. The Gedney family was large and had eleven children including two sets of twins born to the couple.
The Gedney family settled in Appanoose County, Iowa and developed strong ties with the Alva Merrit Graham family. There were several marriages between the two families including Elmer who married Laura Graham on April 14, 1909 In Appanoose, Iowa. Two of his sisters, Hazel and Opal also married brothers of Laura Graham, making the families ties close between the two families.
Elmer and his brothers were ranchers in the sand hills of western Nebraska. Elmer, suffering with asthma, decided to relocate seeking relief. Therefore, he and his family migrated to Southern California in 1916. Living in several locations before settling in Garden Grove, California.
He died on January 24, 1924 and was buried in Fairhaven Cemetery, Santa Ana, California. Laura died on January 7, 1969 and was buried beside Elmer.
