"Hiram Colgrove died at the Union hotel, East Tawas, Monday afternoon, very suddenly. He came down from Hale Saturday and was in his usual good health, but was taken ill that evening. The deceased was born in Syracuse, New York, Nov. 27, 1836. He was united in marriage with Miss Lenora Phinney at Lawranceville, April 5, 1862. Two children were born of this union, one of whom, Edward, of Hale, and the widow survive him. Mr. Colgrove enlisted in the 2nd Illinois light artillery in 1864 and served to the end of the war. He has been a resident of Michigan for 39 years. The funeral was held from the home of Mrs. J. Greggs, of this city Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Moffet officiating, and the remains were laid at rest beside those of his parents in the Tawas City cemetery."
