The Cycle of Life
Composed by little Joseph's half-sister, Dorothy Husar Krosky
Amid the fury of the storm, I've been uprooted; here I lay.
Soon to be cut up and carried away.
I once was an acorn; how I did grow
Standing ever so tall with nowhere to go.
My limbs were filled with leaves of green in the spring.
A fullness to my being, it did bring.
For a moment in time, I was a beautiful sight.
A burst of color, an autumn delight.
But by the end of December, all leaves had blown free
And I was naked, as naked can be.
I've seen the sun shine and felt the wind blow
Along with the soft touch of snow.
I've seen many a car go by
But around my trunk, no one ever a ribbon did tie.
Over the fence, in the neighbor's yard, a swimming pool I see
Out of reach, yet a mere twenty-five feet from me.
I've listened and I have heard
The song of many a different bird.
I've held squirrels while they scurry around.
Heard them chatter on the ground.
My roots now lie exposed, in full view.
Soon I'll be bidding the world a fond adieu.
