Daughter of Cornelius Hill and Luella (Fox) Hill. Married Arthur Lyle Gillis in 1897 in Wapello, Iowa. One daughter, one son.
Mrs. A. L. Gillis Dead.
Mrs. A. L. Gillis, of Noble, Iowa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Hill, formerly of this locality, but now residing at Oquawka, Ill., died last Friday evening at the Wiggins hospital in Mt. Pleasant after an operation for appendicitis.
Mrs. Gillis leaves a husband and two children, parents, five sisters and one brother to mourn her death. She was born in Louisa county, near this city, on July 1, 1880, and grew to womanhood here. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of this city, and a woman universally liked by all who knew here. [sic]
About two weeks ago she was taken to Mt. Pleasant and placed in the Wiggins hospital suffering with appendicitis. Last week an operation was decided upon and performed. She rallied nicely and it was confidently thought she would recover. No hint of her serious condition was discernible Friday afternoon. About dark, however, her condition became worse. Death came at 10 o'clock. Her demise is attributed to heart failure, caused by the shock of the operation.
The funeral was held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock in Mt. Pleasant from the residence of her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Gillis, with interment in that city.
