She was born on February 4, 1927 in Lincoln, Neb., to Robert E. and Emma (Schwartz) Steele. Catherine graduated from Falls City High School.
On February 8, 1947, she married Leonard K. Nuzum in Falls City, Neb., and they became parents of five children. They lived in White Cloud, Kan., and later moved to Bryan, Texas. Leonard passed away in 1994.
In 1996 Catherine moved to Lawrence, Kan. Catherine passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Oregon Care Center at the age of 84.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a brother, Edgar Steele; and an infant daughter, Mary Beth.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin and Patricia Nuzum of Maryland, and Gary and Amy Nuzum and Dave Nuzum, all of Lawrence, Kan.; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca "Becky" and Bill Livengood of Mound City; brother, Robert Steele of Falls City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City. Burial: 3 p.m. Thursday, Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud, Kan.
