| Birth: | Apr. 20, 1900 | | Death: | Oct. 25, 1972 |  American Fashion Designer. Best known for his widely copied dramatic and spectacular clothes for women. He created more than twenty distinctive styles, some of which influenced Partisian couture and became classics. He began his fashion career in 1922 at the Astoria Studio at Paramount Pictures. In 1924 he went to work for other names such as, Charles Armour, Hattie Carnegie and Anthony Traina. In 1943 Norell was awarded the prestigious Coty Award. Norell designed the clothing for Gertrude Lawrence, when she appeared in the stage production of "Lady In The Dark," Lee Remick in "The Wheeler Dealers" in 1963 and Doris Day in "The Touch Of Mink" in 1962.
