Carl Anton "Pete" Holmquist was born in Rockdale, Illinois in 1892. Parents Malkum and Emma were both born in Sweden. Pete's older sister was Hilda (Krohn) and his younger sister was Ebba (Robertson).

He married Christine Carlson in 1916, was divorced from her a year later, remarried Christine again in 1917 and the bond was finally annulled in late 1918. He married Alma Sullivan in 1919 and they produced six children: Leonard, Phyllis, Howard, Gordon, and twins Richard and Donald.

Pete was in the U.S. Army for a very short time during World War I and worked as a quarryman, cattle driver, carpenter, and at the steel car shop at the EJ&E Railroad before retiring in 1957.

He passed away in the middle of the night at the Morris-Lincoln Nursing home in Morris, Illinois on February 16, 1971.
