Pvt. Co. A 10th MO. Infantry, & Co. D 2nd MO Cavalry. Was first in the battle of Prairie Grove, Ar. and the the battle of Helena Ark. The 10th MO Infantry had 11 killed, 41 wounded, and 237 missing. Of those missing Cyrus was taken as a POW and sent to Alton, Ill. and later transferred to Fort Delaware. He was later exchanged and traveled from Richmond VA to Mobile, Ala. where he became part of the 2nd MO Cavalry under the leadership of Colonel Robert McCullock, 1st Brigade, Chalmer's Division, in the cavalry of Lt. General Nathan Bedford Forrest. They were in numerous fights in Mississippi and Alabama, Franklin and Nashville in Tennessee and Selma, Ala. to name a few. This unit was surrendered under Lt. Gen. Richard Taylor at Citronelle, Ala., and paroled May 16, 1865 in Columbus, Miss. Cyrus was born June 27, 1841 in Shenandoah Co. VA and was the son of Samuel & Dorothy (Barnhart) Halterman. They came to Missouri in 1843 and settled in Salt River township. He married Mary Roebuck, daguther of H.K. & Rhoda (Jenkins) Roebuck, December 2, 1868. He was a member of the Marmaduke Camp #685, UCV, Moberly, MO.
